Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to support local scouting programs by providing resources, equipment, and financial assistance that help young people grow through outdoor adventure, leadership, service, and community involvement.

Vision

A major part of our vision is increasing membership so that more youth have access to scouting and so that scouts can participate with others close to their own age. Scouting serves a wide age range, from young children just beginning to learn responsibility, manners, and friendship, to older scouts who are ready for more advanced outdoor activities, leadership roles, and service opportunities. Growth will allow us to provide stronger age-appropriate programming while still preserving the valuable mentorship that happens when older scouts help teach younger scouts.

We also want to continue building a consistent program that keeps families engaged throughout the year. In the past, limited activities made it harder for families to see the full value of scouting. Over the past year, we have worked to change that by increasing meeting frequency, camping opportunities, outdoor activities, and service projects. Pack 28 has grown from four members to sixteen active members, showing that families respond when the program is active, meaningful, and visible.

Community service is central to this vision. Our scouts have already participated in projects that teach citizenship, responsibility, and respect for others. For Memorial Day, scouts visited all four cemeteries in Madison Township and placed United States flags on veterans’ graves while learning the meaning and importance of the observance. Troop 29 also provided a flag ceremony for a Veterans Day assembly at a local high school, presenting the flags for the Star-Spangled Banner before students from all grade levels and the invited veterans.

Our scouts have also served the community through hands-on work and public education. They volunteered at Madison Township Community Park by walking the trails, removing debris and downed limbs, collecting trash, and helping maintain the trails for public use. In October, Troop 29 volunteered at the Middletown Halloween event by operating a touch-and-learn educational booth for the public with live spiders and animal furs. Scouts helped teach the public about the importance of these creatures, answered questions, demonstrated safe handling, and explained why people should not be afraid. It was very fun watching some members of the public handle spiders for the first time. Following the festival, the troop stayed to help the event organizer clean up the event.

We believe these experiences are exactly what young people need. They give scouts the opportunity to lead, serve, communicate, solve problems, and learn from real situations. Our vision is to create more of these opportunities, remove barriers that limit participation, support the adult volunteers who make the program possible, and build a scouting program that continues to add value to families and the broader community.
